OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

This is a transitional position that entails a nine-month training program. The training program begins August 1st through April 30th every year.  The online training portion is from August 1st to December 31st. During this time they can take the courses online and exams at their leisure. During this rigorous training period they will learn everything from processing tax returns, IRS Circular 230-ethics for tax professionals, tax laws and updates, management courses, business development courses and self-development courses. They will have access to practice returns, and endless resources to enhance their knowledge and prepare them for the next step. All course work must be completed and submitted no later than December 31st to be eligible for the next phase or training.
Upon successful completion of the online training, the Associate Tax Manager will be ready for the hands on portion of the course. From January 1-April 30, The Associate Tax Manager will manage a team of Tax Practioneers for the tax season processing live tax returns as well as developing the skills necessary to move into the role of manager. During this time, the trainee will be a 1099 contractor and paid a combination of commission for returns done and over-rides for all returns done by team members, plus the opportunity for bonuses
At the end of the tax season, once all tax-processing requirements have been met, the Associate Tax Manager will be promoted to Manager of Tax Processing. At this point the position transitions from a contractor to a full time employee receiving a full benefit package and an annual salary of  _________  plus bonus.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Manager of Tax Processing under the guidance of the VP of Tax Operations will use his/her experience in management and operational expertise to ensure returns, payments, refunds, and notices are handled in accordance with regulatory and internal guidelines and deadlines. Additionally, this manager will ensure cost is properly maintained in client accounts, and complex or sensitive tax cost matters are addressed in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Oversee the accurate and timely filing of all tax returns in order to meet the various regulatory filing date deadlines throughout the year.
  • Oversee the accurate payment and mailing of estimated tax payments for each quarterly filing deadline.
  • Ensure that the procedures that are in place around the processing of tax refund checks are followed. Perform periodic reviews to ensure that the team is in compliance with these procedures and any exceptions are promptly resolved using the controls that are in place.
  • Work closely with client servicing partners and key groups within the Tax Department in order to resolve any issues related to the filing of tax returns, payment of estimates and processing of refund checks.
  • Ensure that all other tasks processed by Tax Administrative Services are continually being processed in a timely and accurate manner. These other tasks include, but are not limited to, the assignment of tax notices, the assignment of tax identification numbers, and the maintenance of assignment statuses.
  • Respond to inquiries from client servicing partners regarding complex or sensitive tax cost update situations.
  • Work with Tax Cost team members to analyze and resolve complex tax cost issues in order to ensure that the issue is resolved to the satisfaction of the client.
  • Participate in meetings or phone conversations with clients and lead client servicing partners in order to discuss or resolve tax cost matters.
  • Understand the IRS cost basis regulations.
  • Ensure that all Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are continually met.
  • Work with Compliance Department to assist with implement new processing efficiencies or improve existing processes.
  • Ensure all aspects of performance management are performed in a timely manner, makes decisions related to compensation planning, and responsible for career development discussions.
  • Develop periodic goals, organizes the work, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities, and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work and completion of all compliance training.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Applicant needs to have 1 or more of the following :
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Management experience with small and large teams
Multi-unit management experience
Commission based compensation at a management level
Demonstrated history of successfully improving operational processes
Management of a Tax Processing Enterprise
CPA or Enrolled Agent certification (or in the process of pursuing), preferred
